BANGKOK (September 25, 2023) -- Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) hosted the “FROM PURPLE TO PURPOSE” Press Conference to launch the new uniform for female cabin crew, a combination of the national identity and sustainable development, which will be implemented on 1 January 2024. Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI Chairman of the Plan Administrators, Mr. Chansin Treenuchagron, THAI Plan Administrator, Mr. Chai Eamsiri, THAI Chief Executive Officer, and THAI senior management attended this conference.
During the past two decades, one of THAI’s priorities in operations is the environmental impact especially in these greenhouse gases emission reduction initiatives: in-office resources reduction and upcycling project which would enhance the circular economy, sustainable development, as well as the net zero emission goal in 2050. These projects have recently been developed under the Zero Waste Living principle consisting three pillars namely FROM PLANES TO PLANET, FROM WASTE TO WEALTH and FROM PURPLE TO PURPOSE.
The Thai Ruean Ton, Thai national dress globally recognized for its grace for over six decades as worn by THAI flight attendants, is now weaved with synthetic thread made of recycled materials and Thai silk. The new uniform offers both aesthetic and utility purposes as it is easier for looking after and flexier in wearing and has passed the safety standards.
The Thai Ruean Ton uniform with this new material will be worn by female flight attendants and to be witnessed onboard and elsewhere from 1 January 2024.
In addition to sustainable development initiatives already implemented such as fuel efficient improvement, introducing new-generation aircraft and engine with less fuel consumption and lower carbon emission, flight operations technique improvement such as single engine taxi and takeoff weight optimization, THAI continues to develop its strategic framework on sustainable development which will include sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), initiatives for non-aviation activities covering catering, technical, and ground services, as well as social contributions in Thai agricultural sector especially SMEs in order to achieve the corporate sustainable development goals.
