The hotel’s design is an ode to the famous theatres and cinemas that first opened in Hibiya during the Showa period
TOKYO, Japan (February 16, 2023) -- Accor, the region’s largest international hospitality company together with Heiwa Real Estate Co. Ltd., will transform the current Uchisaiwaicho Heiwa Building in Tokyo, into the Mercure Tokyo Hibiya. The 178-key property will debut in the winter of 2023, with a contemporary take on traditional theatre design elements, paying homage to the history and culture of Hibiya.
From the late 1800s to early 1900s, there were few social and entertainment facilities for people to visit in central Tokyo. That changed in 1926 when the Showa period began and Western-style theatres such as “Yurakuza Theatre”, and “The Imperial Theatre” were built in the Hibiya area, quickly making it a world-class cinema and theatre centre in Japan. To this day, Hibiya continues to be widely loved by the locals as a place for entertainment and culture.
Mercure Tokyo Hibiya’s art deco interiors, draw inspiration from the unique costumes, glamorous lighting and filming equipment traditionally seen at theatres. The hotel features a restaurant with an outdoor terrace and garden, a fitness centre, an executive lounge with a theatre and cigar room, meeting rooms and other facilities perfect for both business and leisure travellers.
Mercure Tokyo Hibiya is centrally-located and just a 3-minute walk from JR Shimbashi Station and Uchisaiwaicho Station. Local attractions include the vast and beautiful Hibiya Park, Tokyo Midtown Hibiya complex that house offices, restaurants, shops and the massive 13-screen Toho Cinemas Hibiya.
Garth Simmons, Chief Executive Officer, Accor Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea said, “Accor continues to grow the presence of its power brands in Japan, with the signing of Mercure Tokyo Hibiya located in the heart of the city, where visitors come from all over the world for a variety of purposes. We believe that the opening of Mercure Tokyo Hibiya will be a very important step for us and through this project with Heiwa Real Estate Co., Ltd., we will be able to continue providing a memorable and locally-inspired hotel experience to local and international guests alike.”
